On my second day in Pachuca I went for a day trip with Valentine and Oli to Huasca, the first Pueblo Mágico of Mexico, the Hacienda Santa Maria Regla and the Prismas Basálticos, a beautiful rock formation.
The first thing we did after we'd arrived in Huasca (after eating some tacos and pastes) was exploring the little city by walking just randomly around. By chance we saw a sign which led us out of the city to a traditional pottery workshop, the Taller del Alfarero. We decided to go for a tour and we were given some tutorials before we had the chance to design our own artworks.
Our second stop was the Hacienda Santa Maria Regla which is surrounded by the Prismas Basálticos. It was built in the 18th century and thus the first hacienda of benefit of silver that existed in the region. The hacienda preserves a large part of its courtyards. Today the hacienda serves also as a rustic colonial-style hotel and offers spaces for all types of events.
The Prismas Basálticos are the result of the slow cooling of lava flows about 2.5 million years ago. Thus basalt columns of 5 or 6 faces were formed, some vertically and others horizontally. They are approximately 40 m high and have a diameter of 0.8 m.
