My Travel-Blog in America

“The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.” – Saint Augustine

¡Hola! I'm Dani and I created this travel blog to show you wonderful insights of my backpacking tour within Latin America - okay, Mexico and the USA. When I started this journey in December 2018 my plan was to visit many Latin American Countries, starting in Mexico and making my way down to South America. However, on my journey I let myself be guided by the wind which took me rather north than south. So it came that I spent most of my time in Mexico and some southern US states. My main platform for exploring the world was Couchsurfing which offered me not only fabulous accommodation but also individual adventures, tips and tricks, all kinds of celebrations, new friends all over the world and much more. If you want to continue straight with my travel experiences go to my Blog.

I created a second website showing my sailing experiences aboard the Southernease, check it out: https://dani-on-boat.jimdofree.com/

Zero emission...

Although some people deny climate change and declare it as Fake News I am convinced that it is the responsibility of everyone to contribute to stop global warming, in whatever way, to leave to future generations as good living conditions on our planet as we have found them. Climate-related disasters are increasing and many social and political problems like streams of refugees often originate in the destruction of intact ecosystems such as deforestation of rainforests, rising sea levels, droughts on the one hand, floods on the other hand, cyclones, tsunamis and many more. Our consumer behavior has a great impact on climate change. Everyone is free to choose his or her way to contribute, whether it is by buying less consumer goods, reducing meat consumption or travel as few as possible and with environmentally-friendly means of transportation to mention just some of the most effective ways. As travelling is my passion and I couln'd have reached the following places without harming our planet I decided to compensate at least the CO2 I caused by my flights. Although compensation isn't the best way of preserving our environment it is one option to promote sustainable projects.

I calculated my emissions for this journey with atmosfair, a website which allows you to offset flights, cruises, desired CO2-values or donate directly. I chose this platform as it was rated as the most sustainable platform for compensating CO2 (Stiftung Warentest) in 2018. For my flight from Frankfurt to Mexico City with a stopover in New York City ~ 2 tons of CO2 were emitted, which values ~ 50 Euro based on a price of CO2 of 23 Euro per ton. According to IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) no more than 2 tons per person per year of CO2 should be emitted to stop global warming. Unfortunately, the average German citizen is responsible for about 10 tons of CO2 per year, in some other countries the balance is even worse (Per Capita Carbon Emissions by Country).

As I was travelling quite a lot during the last two years when doing my international Master of Business Engineering which made me travel to Japan, Sweden and the US y made an additional compensation to offset all these flights which emitted more than 10 tons of carbon emissions alone.
